Local Bats are Nocturnal – Hibernate in Winter – Give Birth to a Single Pup
That strange little mouse-like mammal, the bat, is certainly capable of scaring the human population in and around Charlotte, North Carolina. It wings its way through Mint Hill, Huntersville and Cornelius in the form of costumed kids on Halloween. Bats may be fun to think about as you dress the kids in their costumes for trick or treat, but, you don’t want to allow any “real ones” to take up residence in your attic.
Real live bats are dangerous to people in more than one way. In favor of the little critters, they do serve to keep the mosquito population under control since that’s their food choice. But, let them spend their days hanging around in a cave NOT in your attic. They can fly to any small opening that exists in your attic walls. They slither in where you wouldn’t think they could fit. But, it’s what they do once inside that’s a major disaster. First, they make a stinky mess with their droppings, called guano. Second, they are a danger to humans since they can be rabid. While a healthy bat will generally avoid contact with people, those infected with rabies have been known to bite.
Discovering bats in the attic is a traumatic event. The average homeowner doesn’t know how to get rid of them. It can’t be done when there are non-flying pups (what the babies are called) inside. It would be cruel as they would be overlooked and left to starve to death. Sad for them and for you since it would cause additional unpleasant odors.
So – you find bats in the attic. Who you gonna call? Bat busters. Yes, bring in the professionals to remove the bats – clean up their mess – and disinfect the attic. Plus, they know how to find and seal all the cracks to keep the unwanted little critters from getting back in.
Without professional help, your home may end up smelling so bad you’ll be ready to move out. But, selling a house filled with bats and their odors is almost impossible. Your best bet is to find the bats when they first take up residence. Then call the knowledgeable animal control professionals in Concord and yell “Help” into the phone.
